Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) Brief Job Profile
Branch Postmaster (BPM)
- Day to day postal operations of Branch Post Office and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) in the manner as prescribed by the Department from time to time.
- Marketing and promotions of products and services being provided by Department and operating various services in the Customer Services’ Centres (CSC) of the Department etc.
- In the single handed BOs, BPMs have the overall responsibility of smooth and timely functioning of Branch Post Office including mail conveyance and mail delivery.
- In the BOs other than single-handed, the BPMs may be assisted by ABPM. However, BPM will be required to do combined duties of ABPMs as and when ordered. Any other work can also be assigned by superiors like IPO/ ASPO/ SPOs/ SSPOs etc.
(ii) Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
- Sale of stamps/ stationery, conveyance and delivery of mail at doorstep, deposits/ payments/ other transactions of IPPB.
- To assist BPM postal operations in a manner as prescribed by the Department from time to time.
- Marketing and promotions of products and services being provided by Department and operating various services in the Customer Services’ Centres (CSC) of the Department etc.
- ABPM may also be required to do Combined Duty of BPMs as and when ordered in addition to his/her regular duties.
- Any other work assigned by superiors like IPO/ASPO/SPOs/SSPOs etc.
(ii) Dak Sevak
Dak Sevaks will be engaged in Departmental offices like Sub Post offices, Head Post offices etc. The Job Profile of Dak Sevak include:-
- Sale of stamps/ stationery, conveyance and delivery of mail at doorstep, deposits/ payments/ other transactions of IPPB and any other duties assigned by Postmaster/ Sub Postmaster.
- Dak Sevaks may have to work in sorting offices of Railway Mail Service (RMS).
- Dak Sevaks in the Mail offices will handle receiptdispatch of mail bags, transhipment of bags etc.
- Dak Sevaks will also assist Post Masters/Sub Postmasters in managing the smooth functioning of Departmental Post Offices and do marketing, business procurement or any other work assigned by the Post Master or IPO/ ASPO/ SPOs/ SSPOs/ SRM/ SSRM etc.

GDS Recruitment 2024 Application Fee
To apply for the India Post GDS Vacancy 2024, the candidates belonging to the General, OBC, and EWS Category have to pay the application fee of Rs. 100/-. The candidates of SC, ST, and PWD categories are exempted from the payment of the application fee.
India Post Age Limit
The age limit to apply for the India Post GDS Recruitment 2024 is 18-40 Years. The cutoff date for the calculation of the age limit will be the last date of the India Post GDS Online Form. The candidate belonging to the reserved categories will be given the age relaxation as per the rules.
GDS Recruitment 2024 Qualification
The educational qualification for the India Post GDS Recruitment 2024 is 10th Pass/ Matric from any recognized board in India. There are no minimum cutoff marks to apply for the GDS Vacancy July 2024 Cycle.

Selection Procedure
The selection for the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) will be done based on the marks obtained in the 10th class/ matric. The state-wise/ circle-wise merit list will be prepared based on 10th class marks. The selected candidates will be called for Document Verification (DV). After that, the medical examination will be conducted for the final successful candidates.

The candidates have to complete their registration first at the website indiapostgdsonline.gov.in. After that, the candidates can apply online by login with their registration number and password. To apply, enter your personal details, and education qualification and upload the photograph and signatures. Then finally submit the GDS application form.
Important Dates
- The Indian Postal Department will release the GDS Recruitment Notification on 15 July 2024 to recruit 30000+ GDS, BPM, and ABPM. One month will be given to apply for the India Post GDS Vacancy 2024. After that, the department will release the merit list based on the 10th-class marks.
